Getting the best from the Horspath Website

We want you to enjoy your visit to the Horspath Parish Council website. Here are some guide lines to help you.

Please note: throughout the Horspath website, underlined text in blue is a link to another web page. Click on the link to go to the new page. The sign indicates an external link. Just close that page and you return to the Horspath website. If you click on an email link, your email system will open a new message waiting to be composed, with the address already in the "To:" line.

If you have problems viewing our website you might need to check the following :

Viewing the most recent pages
We update these pages frequently, so you might need to use the "Refresh" button to see the latest information. Still can't see the latest pages? Getting the "Page Not Found" message page? Have you cleared your cache recently?
Your browser cache is a temporary storage area that holds web pages that you have looked at. Getting information from the cache is usually quicker than getting it from the internet. Such decisions are made in the background and you usually do not need to be involved. However, this can mean that you do not get the most recent version of a web page. If you are finding that the website is behaving strangely, you might find that the problem is fixed by clearing (or emptying) your cache.

To clear your cache under Internet Explorer :
1. Close any other open browser windows.
2. Select 'Tools' from the top menu
3. Choose 'Internet Options'
4. Under the 'Temporary Internet Files' heading, click the 'Delete Files' button. NB. Do NOT click the 'Delete Cookies' button.
5. Click OK on the 'Warning' box
6. Click OK again.
7. Then close and restart the browser.

For other browsers, please click here.

If clearing the cache still does not let you see the latest pages you can choose to always see the latest pages.

To set this option for Internet Explorer :
1. Close any other open browser windows.
2. Select 'Tools' from the top menu
3. Choose 'Internet Options'
4. Under the 'Temporary Internet Files' or 'Browsing history' heading, click the 'Settings' button
5. Under 'Check for newer versions of stored pages:', click on 'Every visit to the page'
6. Click OK
7. At the 'Internet Options' window, click OK again.
8. Then close and restart the browser.

For other browsers, please refer to the manual or Help sections.

Javascript is required
In order for repeated information in various parts of the website to be viewed, or to see photo "slide shows", you will need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser. To do this, please follow the instructions below:

1. Select 'Tools' from the top menu
2. Choose 'Internet Options'
3. Click on the 'Security' tab
4. Click on 'Custom Level'
5. Scroll down until you see the section labled 'Scripting' (near the bottom of the list)
6. Under 'Active Scripting', select 'Enable' and click OK
7. If using IE8, under 'Allow status bar updates via scripts', select 'Enable' and click OK
8. At the 'Internet Options' window, click OK again.
9. Then close and restart the browser.

For other browsers, please refer to the manual or Help sections.

Popups are required
This site uses small pop-up windows to display information. These are not pop-up ads. If you do not have pop-ups enabled on your browser, the pop-up information windows will not display. If you use pop-up blockers, please enable pop-ups for this site horspath.org.uk. To enable pop-ups, follow the steps below:
For Internet Explorer:
1. Select 'Tools' from the top menu
2. Click on 'Pop-up Blocker'
3. Click on 'Pop-up Blocker Settings'
4. In the box 'Address of Web site to allow' type horspath.org.uk and and click on 'Add'
5. Set the 'Filter Level' to 'Medium: Block most automatic pop-ups'
6. Click on 'Close'.
7. Then close and restart the browser.

For other browsers, please refer to the manual or Help sections.

You could easily have more than one popup blocker installed (the Google toolbar is a common example). Despite your attempts at changing the Internet Explorer popup blocker settings, your other popup blockers could still be causing problems. We recommend you disable them while using the Horspath website and only use the popup blocker in Internet Explorer.

To change font size
If you find the font size on our web pages is not to your liking, it is possible to change it.
For Internet Explorer:
1. Select 'View' from the top menu
2. Select 'Text Size'
3. Click on your prefered text size. The text on the page is now the chosen size.

For other browsers, please refer to the manual or Help sections.
